In the midst of all the COVID-19 restrictions and the manner in which it affected the nation's economy in 2021, some prominent Nigerians still determined to create a considerable "influence on a nationwide and global scale".
Nigerian epidemiologist, by the name Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, became the Assistant Director-General of the World Health Organisation in November 1, 2021.
Since then, he was in charge of the health emergency intelligence. With this, he had gained enough experience and did have over 20 years of senior public health and leadership positions in several public health institutes.
Ihekweazu was known for his bravery, calm and brilliancy when it came to battling the coronavirus back home.
And now he has been summoned to extend his knowledge and findings, to the world.
Okonjo-Iweala who was 66 years old at the time, was crowned as Director General of the World Trade Organisation in February 2021. The decision was taken, after some intense political individuals among the world powers met.
Since the time she resumed her office role, she has long been "campaigning for equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines in the country and leading negotiations on fishing subsidies" in other places.
Okonjo-Iweala during her reign, prioritized well by putting the health and economy of Africa and Nigeria at the front of her agenda at the World Trade Organization.
Due to her resilience and concern towards the livelyhood of human beings, "Time Magazine" named her as the "most influential global personality in the year".
